 Climate & Seasons

Being a large Middle Eastern country separating Asia, Europe, and Africa, the weather in Turkey can vary considerably. Generally speaking, it has a Mediterranean climate but depending on the region, there are peculiarities.

The inland regions generally have a continental climate, with hot and dry summers with an average temperature of around 30°C during the day and cold, snowy winters with an average temperature of 0°C during the day, which can easily drop to -18.
The Marmara region has winters with very frequent rain and regular snow and summers that are very hot and humid.
The Mediterranean coasts have summers that are hot and dry, with temperatures reaching 35°C regularly, and mild winters with occasional rainstorms.
The areas around the Black Sea have warm summers but regular showers, which increase the risk of floods and mudslides. Winters as well have lengthy periods of rain and a milder, although still colder, climate.

 Safety

Safety: Turkey is relatively safe. Because of frequent political unrest and its geopolitical position, the Republic of Turkey can be a target of terrorist attacks. Kidnapping and the risks tied to demonstrations are also of concern. Apart from these large-scale dangers, there is a risk that is common in many places, especially large cities, such as scams, mugging, and pickpocketing.

Natural risks: The region is prone to earthquakes. When it comes to animal risks, stray dogs can be a concern.
